Start the change

Educate yourself. Take action.

Dear DMAR Community,

We believe that diversity and inclusion within our Association and the communities we serve makes us all better, which is why we are taking actionable steps to incite change. As a follow up to our previous diversity statements that were shared with members on June 4th and July 17th, we wanted to provide an update regarding the actions we have taken and those we are still working towards.

Some of the things we have done:

  1. Launched an online Diversity Resources portal. Our online portal includes books, podcasts, videos, articles and more that our members can use as educational tools. This is in no way meant to be an exhaustive list, but it is a good starting place.
  2. Hosted complimentary workshops. Our PEAK program offered a one-hour complimentary workshop on Thursday, August 13th on subconscious racial Bias and fair housing issues taught by Jon Goodman, Real Estate Attorney at Frascona, Joiner, Goodman and Greenstein P.C.
  3. Incited open dialogue and conversation. In September, we collaborated with the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB) to host a special live virtual town hall meeting on current industry issues including redlining and other discriminatory practices with a focus on how we can lead the way for social change.

Up next:

  1. On December 18th, our Community Alliance Committee - comprised of members from the Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA), the Colorado Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (CAHREP), the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP®) Denver Chapter, the National Association of Gay & Lesbian Real Estate Professionals (NAGLREP) and the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB - is hosting a free workshop and panel discussion about diversity and inclusion.

In addition to the efforts above, we are currently revamping our pro-standards operations, working to leverage brokerage outreach channels to raise awareness of the issue, developing additional educational events and creating a new task force through our Government Affairs Committee to research and advocate for a series of policies that will specifically address racial inequality related to housing.

As we continue to do our part to combat racism and create a more inclusive community, we welcome your feedback and involvement. If you have questions or comments, please contact communications@dmarealtors.com. We are here to listen and learn together.

Sincerely,

Mike Papantonakis, DMAR’s Chairman of the Board
Nobu Hata, DMAR’s CEO
