Yun: Expect an Unseasonably Hot Winter for Home Sales
This winter is expected to be unseasonably hot for the housing market.
“Compared to other past winter seasons, this winter season’s sales activity will be stronger,” says Lawrence Yun, chief economist of the National Association of Realtors®. “This winter, there will be more sales compared to pre-pandemic winters going back all the way to 2006.” The momentum from the last few months is expected to continue. From March through October, homes have been selling faster than they traditionally do. Read More
U.S. New Home Sales Inch Higher in October
The numbers: U.S. new home sales rose 0.4% to a seasonally-adjusted annual rate of 745,000 in October from 742,000 in the prior month, the Commerce Department said Wednesday. Because of a small sampling size, the sales data are often revised sharply. Sales in September were originally estimated at 800,000. Analysts polled by The Wall Street Journal had forecast new-home sales in October to remain steady at an 800,000 rate. Read More
NAR Submits Comments on FHFA's Reproposed Capital Rule
The reproposed rule makes important changes, which Realtors® agree with, that allow the GSEs to continue to offload credit risk to private investors through CRT deals and avoids incentives that would have encouraged the GSEs to finance riskier mortgages. Both changes reduce risk at the GSEs and help them perform their Congressionally-chartered duties. Read More
Mortgage apps rise despite higher interest rates
Mortgage applications increased 1.8% for the week ending Nov. 19, despite higher rates, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) survey published on Wednesday. The increase was mainly driven by the purchase index growing by 4.7% from the previous week, on a seasonally adjusted basis. Concurrently, the refinance index grew by 0.4% from the week prior.
