Victory on Eviction Moratorium
The U.S. Supreme Court ended the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC’s) eviction moratorium Thursday night, giving much-needed relief to America’s small housing providers facing financial hardship for more than a year. In a 6-3 ruling, a majority of justices agreed that the stay on the lower court’s order finding the CDC’s eviction moratorium to be unlawful was no longer justified. Read More
Downtown Denver's largest condo project since 2009 is set to break ground soon
Construction could soon begin on a 461-unit condo project at the intersection of 18th Street and Glenarm Place in downtown Denver. The project’s developer, Vancouver, Canada-based Amacon, plans to break ground in the fourth quarter of this year, according to Mark Sheldon, the firm’s Colorado manager. Read More
Economists: Sales Momentum Will Carry Into Fall
Will bidding wars continue? Will home prices stay elevated? Will home buyer demand remain strong? Heading into the fall season, economists are optimistic about the market’s direction considering its unpredictability since the beginning of the pandemic. For the most part, they agree it won’t be a return to the usual slowing pace of sales in the fall—nor will prices slide to the extent typical of the season as families settle into a new school year. The fast-spreading delta variant of COVID-19, however, remains a wild card for the housing market. Read More
Fewer first-time homebuyers are competing these days
Existing-home sales grew by 2.0% in July from the month prior, a report published by the National Association of Realtors® on Monday found. But first-time homebuyers are still getting squeezed. Completed sales transactions for single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops, represented a seasonally adjusted annual rate of just under 6 million (5.99 million) in July, according to NAR. A year ago, the annual rate was 5.90 million, so sales grew year-over-year by 1.5%. Read More
