U.S. homeownership rate soars to an almost 12-year high
The homeownership rate jumped to 67.9%, the highest since 2008’s third quarter, from 65.3% in the prior quarter, the Census Bureau said on Tuesday. The reported noted a change in methodology that could have impacted the numbers: Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, in-person interviews were suspended and most of the survey was conducted by telephone, the release said. Read More

HEROES vs HEALS Act and what they would mean for housing
The HEROES Act, a bill introduced and passed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in May, could be signed this week, offering homeowners and renters much-needed relief in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. On the other hand is the Health, Economic Assistance, Liability Protection and Schools Act, aka HEALS Act, proposed by Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on Monday, which offers significantly less help for homeowners and renters. Read More

Denver homeowners get a break on late property tax payments until October
Any homeowners who pay their property taxes late normally must pay interest for each month they’re past due. But that was before the whole pandemic thing. The Denver City Council on Monday took advantage of a new state law that lets cities and towns waive those interest payments. Legislators voted 11-0 in favor of the measure, with council members Debbie Ortega and Jolon Clark absent. Read More
