Message from DMAR: Real Estate is Exempt from Stay-at-Home Directive

We are pleased to share ‘real estate’ was added by the Mayor’s office under the qualified list of ‘essential professional services’ in a recent update to their original order. Therefore, real estate services are exempt from the stay-at-home directive so long as individuals involved in the real estate transaction comply with physical distancing requirements mandated by the City and County of Denver.

Dear DMAR Members,

Mayor Michael Hancock today announced a new Public Health Order with an explicit stay-at-home directive for the City and County of Denver that will go into effect at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, March 24 and continue until April 10. This order is due to the risk of spread of the novel coronavirus, known as COVID-19.

The Denver Metro Association of REALTORS® has been working diligently with the Mayor’s office to ensure ‘real estate’ be included as an essential professional service.

This is a big win for our members, the local real estate industry, and homebuyers and sellers in our community as we can continue to provide services so long as we comply with the social distancing requirements. Notably, other cities and/or states that have instituted stay-at-home orders have not all qualified ‘real estate’ as an essential professional service; so, on your behalf, we are pleased to have contributed to the City and County of Denver’s decision on this matter.

While this stay-at-home directive is currently issued to the City and County of Denver, Mayor Hancock expects other cities in the metro area to enact similar orders very shortly.

The health of our members and the community at large is our number one priority, and we are certain real estate can transact in a safe, responsible manner. We want to assure you we will continue to do everything in our power on the state and local levels to guard against greater impacts to our industry than need be, and we will continually update you as new information and developments arise

Sincerely,

Euan Graham,
Chairman of the Board
