WHY: Jeff McCarron, an Environmental Health Specialist IV at the Tri-County Health Department, will speak about the department's Onsite Wastewater Treatment System program. An On-Site Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS), commonly known as a septic system, treats sewage on an individual’s property in the ground. Septic systems are installed on properties that cannot be served by publicly-owned wastewater collection and treatment systems which move sewage away from properties. Proper site evaluation, system selection and layout, installation, inspections and maintenance are essential in the onsite treatment of sewage.

About the Speaker
Jeff is a 1983 graduate with a Biology Degree from Fort Lewis College, Durango, Colorado. Jeff earned his Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) Certification in 2007. Jeff is currently an Environmental Health Specialist IV, working in Tri-County Health Department’s Commerce City Office. Jeff runs the Onsite Wastewater Treatment System program, and the Swimming Pool inspection program for the Commerce City Office jurisdiction. Jeff has worked for Tri-County Health Department since 2005, and has worked in the Englewood, Commerce City and Aurora offices. Jeff worked as an inspector for the Retail Food, Childcare, Onsite Wastewater, Swimming Pool, Body Art, Environmental Record Review, and Food Wholesale/Processor programs. Jeff has resolved 1,011 public health complaints since 2013! Jeff worked as an EHS III for 5 years, managing the training of multiple new inspectors. Jeff managed TCHD’s Body Art Program from 2011 – 2014. Jeff is one of two TCHD Water Team members charged with designing and creating a training program for new hires into the Water Team. Jeff loves working for TCHD, and looks forward to many more years of fieldwork.
