How Marriage Affects Your Mortgage – For Better or For Worse | Guest Post

With Valentine’s Day, this month is often known for engagements and big declarations of commitment.  One big step for most couples is to purchase a home and we see that many couples have lots of questions when it comes to buying a home with their partner. 

We all know that marriage is often a huge factor when people decide to look for their first home together. We see clients deciding to purchase before the wedding, and sometimes they wait. Either way, it’s up to us to help guide them to what their best option is as they seek to go after a joint-mortgage. 

Is it best to purchase before you get married? Who should be on the loan? How does my partner’s credit effect our options? All of these questions (and more) come up regularly in discussions with clients about mortgage options. 

Set your clients up for success by helping educate them on what their relationship status has to do with their home buying potential. You can learn some of the basics in our marriage and mortgages video series this month on YouTube.  We hope you walk away with a few tidbits of info you can use to help your clients make the smartest decisions possible!
